Yorkville Fire & Hose - Engine 3

Welcome to our web site.

    The Yorkville Fire & Hose Co. was incorporated on April 27, 1833; it had no fire engine, no protective gear and only a handful of members.

    One hundred and seventy six years later, a lot has changed for one of the state’s oldest volunteer fire departments. It has nearly 40 active members and better safety equipment than ever before. Recently Yorkville Fire & Hose Co. purchased a new pumper that can carry 750 gallons of water and 20 gallons of fire retardant foam. (see picture below)

  We are committed to safety and continual improvement of our capabilities. Modern fires are hotter than they used to be and more likely to contain chemical fumes because of changes in building and furnishing materials.

   Despite these increased hazards, firefighters are much safer than they were in the past. Full-length “bunker pants” and specialized air masks have become a standard part of turn-out gear that once consisted of only a jacket, boots and a steel helmet.

    Firefighting gear is much more heat resistant than it used to be, and thermal imaging cameras have been introduced to help quickly pinpoint the source of a fire.

A fireman’s  Prayer

When I am called to duty, God,

wherever flames may rage;

Give me strength to save some life,

Whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child

Before it is too late;

Or save an older person from

The horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert

And hear the weakest shout,

And quickly and efficiently,

To put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and

To give the best in me;

To guard my every neighbor and

Protect his property.

And if according to Your will,

I have to lose my life,

Please bless with Your protecting hand,

My children and my wife.
